Baily's Dairy of Pocopson Meadow Farm
As a matter of interest, descendants of Eusebius and Sarah (Painter) Barnard still lease the farmland nearby the Barnard House. The 2X great grandson of Eusebius and Sarah Barnard and his daughters are well known locally for their farm fresh milk products produced at Baily’s Dairy of Pocopson Meadow Farm, about ½ mile west on Unionville Lenape road.
The Baily family acquired the farm in Pocopson Township in 1874.
In September of 1901, Abram Baily married Ida Barnard, a daughter of Eusebius R. and Alta Downing Barnard. Abram and Ida had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Eusebius Barnard Baily took over the farms operations from his father. Eusebius Barnard Baily Jr. (aka Mr. Baily) took over the farm after his father passed in the 1980's. In recent years daughters Becky and Meredith have taken on the daily operations of the dairy and farm store.
The family particularly favors an old breed of dairy cattle called American Lineback. Linebacks are an old English breed that is easily recognizable by speckles, a dark muzzle, solid dark ears and a white stripe down their back. About 80% of the herd are Linebacks. Each family member also has their own favorite breed. The rest of the herd is composed of purebred Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein, Jersey, and Milking Shorthorn cattle mixed together in the fields.
The dairy produces hormone free, 100% natural milk and dairy products. The farm store is open to the public daily, and the farm is a favorite by the local residents to bring their children and grandchildren to see the farm animals.
