Article #111 - Fishing Party

[A letter to the editor strongly recommending that the association sponsor a fishing party on the “last 7th day in beautiful May.” 4th mo. 53]

...the whole community apparently rising up as if weary from protracted labour, and turning around as if seeking for something to revive their languid spirit and renew their exasted [sic] energies, have wonderingly inquired, will there be another fishing party this summer? The question has gone abroad, the answer has come echoing back there will!...each will pass the day just as inclination leads, provided, only, that none shall be permitted to interfere with the rights, privileges or happiness of others.

            So early on that morning ho! for

ose Island, to fish in its surrounding waters, to row the Canoe with a light-hearted Crew, to ascend the verdant slope of Mt. Pleasant to its ample shaded su[m]mit, and there surrounded by heaven’s pure air, and Earth’s Free hearts “enjoy a feast of Reason and a flow of Soul.”
