Article #194 - Temperance
Although the objects of this Association may be better promoted by confineing [sic] the investigations to science and literature, yet there are principles that are not evolved from literature nor science, that all will be benefited by embracing; subjects that do not properly belong to either, that are ever important for us to consider; among these may I name two; the subject Temperance, the principle, total abstinance from all intoxicating drinks. Although for so many years the efforts of Philanthropists in promoting this object have been followed by so many blessings to so many of the human family, there are still amongst us those who have not said with this foul thing we will no more.
[The author is especially concerned with alcohol’s harmful effects on young men.]
